One of the big advantages of having a background on both sides of the camera, is the opportunity it gives me to coach and teach. At this years Bodypower Expo 2014 , the UK’s largest Fitness Show I was asked to give a talk along with top fitness model Kirk Miller about what it takes to be a cover model. With over 50 magazine covers between us, this is a subject we both feel qualified to talk about. Along with this we also did a photoshoot live on stage in front of the thousands of visitors Bodypower attracts. For all who attended I hope you found the talk beneficial, the photoshoot aspect was to help people understand posing and how expressions can make a picture. I have included all the images from the shoot here to give people an idea on how to pose and different expressions.
In these 3 pics we discussed , how angling the body away from the camera and rotating shoulders back to camera can make the waist look smaller and shoulders wider. Also how both hands on hips can help spread the shoulder girdle, making you appear wider. I covered this on my video blog a while ago check out it out below.
We also discussed the importance of facial expressions even in a physique shot, here are some examples from the shoot with Kirk.
I have included the full gallery and some iPhone pics of the talk below. I really can’t emphasise enough how important posing is. You can have the best physique in the world & look amazing but if you don’t know how to pose and relax in front of the camera you will never get that killer shot. There are no short cuts, as with anything its hard work and practise. I pride myself in communicating with the model and giving good direction at my shoots.
